Betting on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+2.5)
Preseason record: 0-1
The Buccaneers fell prey to the Pittsburgh Pirates back in Week 1 of the preseason at home, 27-17. But Tampa Bay might also be more concerned about settling a quarterback decision than winning such games. Baker Mayfield could still be very much ahead in the competition for the QB1 role in Tampa Bay after going 8/9 for 63 passing yards and a touchdown against the Steelers. Kyle Trask was 6/10 for 99 passing yards and did not have a touchdown or an interception, while also getting sacked three times. Mayfield was not sacked.
It’s possible that Trask gets more reps in Week 2 of the preseason for the Bucs who should present themselves as a bigger threat to the Jets than the Carolina Panthers who laid an egg in Week 1 versus New York. The Buccaneers have covered the spread in six of their last 10 road games in the preseason.
Betting on the New York Jets (-2.5)

.After losing to the Cleveland Browns in the Hall of Fame Game, the Jets finally got a W in Week 1 by shutting down completely the Panthers on the road to the tune of a 27-0 score. The Jets’ defense made life hard for Panthers rookie quarterback Bryce Young and Matt Corral as well. The Jets recorded five sacks and an interception on defense. The Panthers also managed just 52 rushing yards on 15 carries. That’s the kind of defense awaiting the Bucs.
On offense, the Jets have yet to deploy Aaron Rodgers in the preseason, and that might be the case until the regular season. Instead, look for the Jets to continue featuring Zach Wilson a lot. Wilson went 14/20 for 123 passing yards and a touchdown against the Panthers. Not bad for Wilson, who should be more confident in himself heading into Week 2.
