The Carolina Panthers were hoping to start this NFL season flying high after beating the Buffalo Bills 21-0 in their final preseason game, but they soon realized that the regular season is something very different, as they had a 26-24 loss to the Cleveland Browns in their Week 1 matchup.
The result may have been negative, but the Panthers nearly won the game by rallying from a 13-point deficit in the fourth quarter, by scoring 17 points to go ahead 23-24, before a 58-yard field goal by the Browns on the final play of the game broke the hearts of every fan at Bank of America Stadium.
It would have been quite a feat considering they barely had a 21:34 minute possession and were outgained by nearly 100 total yards, so there is work to be done if they don’t want to have to sail upstream again.
Betting on the New York Giants
- Regular Season Record: 1-0
- Spread: -2.5
- Moneyline: -139
- Over/Under: 42.5
Unlike their rivals, the New York Giants did manage to be epic and came from behind in their Week 1 away game against the Tennessee Titans: they went into halftime trailing 0-13 and ended up winning 21-20 thanks to a touchdown and a two-point conversion on their last drive of the game.
This result may have been well-deserved, as the Giants did not end up being that inferior in the end. They matched the Titans in several respects thanks to an outstanding second half in which they were able to score a goal in the first half,in which its land unit was the most outstanding:238 yards in total, 164 of which went to Saquon Barkley.
This makes New York the team with the most ground yards rushing in all of NFL Week 1, and they could try to use this weapon again to get a second straight win, this time in front of their fans.
JefeBet Prediction
If playing on the ground is what the Giants will want, then the Panthers are in dire straits as their ground defense is coming off allowing the Browns 217 total yards on the ground, and will again be tested.
As close as the Panthers came to a comeback, the team did not look dangerous throughout the rest of their Week 1 game, and playing as the away team this time around will likely mean that they will have to row even more against the tide.
In addition, it is important to note that the Giants went 25-3 the last time they hosted the Panthers (October 2021).
