Betting on the Washington Commanders
The Commanders are in the thick of the battle for the final National Conference wild card spot and any slip-up could drop them out of the postseason with the Seahawks and Lions only half a game behind.
It goes without saying that the game against the 49ers will not be simple, but given that San Francisco has already qualified and has little chance of challenging for the NFC’s top record, things might be a little calmer for Washington. However, as indicated by the fact that their 265 points rank seventh lowest in the league, the Commanders’ offense is among the weakest in the league. They rank second to lowest in terms of rushing touchdowns with seven and only average 5.0 yards per play.
Of course, their defense must compete within the top ten of the circuit and that is why they are in this position. In the last ten games, Washington has not conceded more than 21 points, while the 246 first downs conceded to opponents are the second lowest in the league. Likewise, their secondary has done a decent job and on the ground they have only received eight touchdowns, the fourth fewest in the entire NFL.
Betting on the San Francisco 49ers
With three weeks remaining in the regular round, the 49ers have already achieved the first step toward the Super Bowl by easily winning their division and being ranked, which will enable them to boost their statistics for the January matchup.
However, that should not be a reason to let their guard down and lose their place as the number one defense in the league. San Francisco is first in fewest points allowed (210), first downs allowed (230), lowest average yards per rush (3.4) and total yards (4,006). They also have the second fewest passing TDs allowed (13), they are fourth in fumbles recovered (22) and seventh in catches (39).
All of this has made Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo’s injuries less costly and more advantageous for rookie QB Brock Purdy, who has done an excellent job as the starting quarterback. The 49ers score in the red zone 54.3% of the time they visit it, they are sixth in yards gained per play (5.6), have the fewest interceptions of any team (seven), and are averaging 5.8 yards per play.
JefeBet Prediction
The point line for this game seems very low, but both defenses are among the best in the league and there is no reason to think that will change this Saturday.
The Commanders’ offense has many weaknesses, while the 49ers’ offense could be without Purdy and Christian McCaffrey, both of whom are physically challenged and may be looking to take care of themselves for the postseason. In addition, five of the last six games between the two have ended in the Under.
Prediction: Under (WAS 16 – SF 20).
