Betting on the Jacksonville Jaguars (-4)
Preseason record: 0-0
The Jaguars showed growth in 2022 with Trevor Lawrence, as the team finished first in the horrible AFC South division and made the playoffs. Among their victims last season was Dallas, as the Jaguars defeated the Cowboys at home in Week 15 via overtime, 40-34. The lineups for this game for the two teams will be drastically different than the ones that met last December, but it is still worth something to the Jags at least that they scored a win the last time they faced off versus the NFC East squad.
Lawrence might not see much playing time this Saturday, but CJ Beathard and Nathan Rourke can be expected to do, most of the work on the field for the quarterback group alongside the likes of firstr-round rookie and offensive tackle Anthonty Harrison and second-rounder tight end Brenton Strange. Harrison is questionable at the moment, so he could ultimately sit this game out. Another intriguing rookie to follow in Jacksonville is former Auburn Tigers tailback Tank Bigsby, who rushed for 970 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022 for the SEC school.
Betting on the Dallas Cowboys (+4)
Preseason record: 0-0
There is a slim chance that Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott will play at least a series this Saturday, but don’t get your hopes up still. Cooper Rush and Will Grier should be the ones getting more time on the field, as they continue their battle for the backup role. Rush showed Dallas it could rely on him when he helped guide the Cowboys to a 4-1 record in 2022 while Prescott was out with an injury.
On defense, Dallas might not have first-round pick and defensive tackle Mazi Smith due to a lower-body issue. Although it did not show in the aforementioned 2022 loss to Jacksonville, the Cowboys had one of the stoutest stop units last year, as they held teams to only 19.7 points per game – sixth-best in the league. The Cowboys have covered the spread in both of their last two preseason games.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Jacksonville Jaguars vs Dallas Cowboys
If Rush is going to play a lot in this game, then that will be a big plus for Dallas. He’s just more trustworthy than the backups of the Jaguars. It’s hard to tell just how well the offensive line of the Cowboys will be, though.
Prediction:
The Cowboys win, 19-16.
