James Bradberry was released by the New York Giants on May 9, but it only took him a few days to find a new home in the NFL . Do you want to know who he’ll be playing for? We’ll explain everything in this article.
After the Giants were unable to find a business partner to trade cornerback James Bradberry, he became a free agent this season. Now, he will join the Philadelphia Eagles.
As reported by NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the 28-year-old has agreed to play one season with the Eagles for $10 million.
His departure from the Giants was not surprising, since during his time with the franchise, he was forced to make modifications to his contract due to the salary cap. With the appointment of new general manager Joe Schoen, it was expected that more moves to save costs would be made, including the release of some players, notably James Bradberry.
Schoen had stated that he thought “there would be more interest” as the first option was to trade the player. The general manager also said that “there were some teams that showed interest before the draft”, but in the end there was no agreement.
According to the Big Apple press, the Giants tried to offer him a smaller contract in order to keep him. Some organizations reportedly approached the cornerback directly with offers after his release was disclosed.
The Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and Vegas Raiders were among those interested in signing the guy with six seasons of NFL experience to their rosters, but the Philadelphia Eagles ultimately made the best offer.
How has James Bradberry’s career in the NFL been?
Bradberry was selected in the second round of the 2016 Draft with the #62 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers, where he played up to the 2019 season.
He joined the Giants for the 2020 season, but it wasn’t until his second year with the New York franchise that he had his best performance: he played all 17 games, in which he recorded 47 tackles, four interceptions, which were the most of his career, and 17 passes defensed.
Given his latest records, a little more is expected from Bradberry, but his performance will depend on the playing time he is given with the Eagles.
