NFL Week 13 Scores | Recap and Score Summary of the Top Matchups
Buffalo Bills (24) vs New England Patriots (10) – Thursday Night Football
By defeating the Patriots on Thursday Night Football behind a brilliant performance from Josh Allen, the Bills made a coup of authority in the AFC East and earned their first victory of the year against a team from their division.
After completing two more passes against New England, the quarterback became the first player in history to have three consecutive seasons with at least 25 touchdown passes and five rushing scores. This team, led by Bill Bellichick, has fallen in the last two weeks after three wins in a row.
With their victory and the Dolphins’ defeat, 9-3, Buffalo topped the division and is currently tied with the Chiefs for the best record in the AFC, albeit the Chiefs surpass Kansas City in the head-to-head competition.
Pittsburgh Steelers (19) vs Atlanta Falcons (16)
The Steelers finished on a big note on Sunday after picking up their first string of wins in the current season by beating the Falcons with a great defensive performance in which they only conceded 306 total yards.
Kenny Pickett, the offensive leader for Pittsburgh, continued to improve by completing 16 of 28 passes, one of which resulted in a touchdown. The fact that he didn’t throw an interception for the fourth straight game also speaks to the young quarterback’s maturity and the reason the Steelers improved to 5-7.
For their part, the Falcons, now 5-8, continue to squander opportunities in the final minutes of the game and are dramatically pulling away from the fight with the Buccaneers for the lead in the weak NFC South.
Green Bay Packers (28) vs Chicago Bears (19)
With an 18-point rally in the fourth quarter, the Packers not only snapped a two-game losing streak but also sealed their eighth win in a row over the Bears, their longtime division rivals in the NFC North.
Because of a number of physical issues, Aaron Rodgers was uncertain for that game, but he ultimately proved to be crucial for Green Bay. The quarterback oversaw three scoring drives in the fourth quarter, one of which resulted in the game-winning touchdown pass to rookie Christian Watson.
The Bears lost for the sixth consecutive time and remain at the bottom of the division with a 3-10 record.
Jacksonville Jaguars (14) vs Detroit Lions (40)
The Lions put on a war arsenal Sunday against the Jaguars thanks to a stellar performance by the team’s offensive trident of Jared Goff, D’Andre Swift and Amon-Ra St. Brown.
Detroit picked up its fifth win of the season with 437 total yards, 340 of them thanks to Goff, who added two touchdown passes. Swift rushed for 62 yards and a touchdown, while St. Brown collected 114 yards receiving and two touchdown receptions.
The Jaguars were outplayed from start to finish and remain third in the AFC South with a 4-8 record, trailing only the Texans, the worst team in the league.
New York Jets (22) vs Minnesota Vikings (27)
In a very important duel for both teams, the Vikings came out on top, beating a very good Jets and following the Eagles’ lead as the best team in the National Conference.
For the nth time, Minnesota made the bare minimum effort to win. With just 286 total yards and 27 touchdowns against a strong New York defense, the Minnesota squad managed to win its tenth game of the year by taking advantage of every opportunity and scoring when necessary.
The Jets ultimately failed by replacing Zach Wilson with Mike White, and although the quarterback completed 369 passes for 369 yards, he was unable to add any touchdown passes and threw two interceptions. The only positive development is that, despite dropping to 7-5, they still possess the AFC’s third wild card following losses by the Patriots and Chargers.
Washington Commanders (20) vs New York Giants (20)
The Commanders (7-5-1) and Giants (7-4-1) concluded evenly matched in a game that had excitement from start to finish and illustrated the balance that exists between the two organizations as they competed for the last wild card slots in the NFC.
After the match, the Washington and New York players confessed to feeling a little strange after fighting for 70 minutes and not getting a win, but not a loss either. This is something that could have been avoided if Graham Gano, the Giants’ kicker, had made a 58-yard field goal with the clock expiring in overtime.
Undoubtedly, neither team benefits from the tie in this scenario, as demonstrated by the Commanders, who, despite not having dropped a game, were surpassed by the Seahawks in winning percentage following their victory over the Rams.
Tennessee Titans (10) vs Philadelphia Eagles (35)
The Eagles want to leave no doubt that they are the best team in the NFL this season, and this Sunday they destroyed one of the best defensive lines in the circuit, the Titans.
In total, Philadelphia recorded 453 total yards and Jalen Hurts accounted for 380 of them with three touchdown passes. The quarterback also added 12 rushing yards and another touchdown on the ground to lead his team to an 11-1 record.
On the other hand, Tennessee lost for the second consecutive game and had it not been for the fact that they are in one of the weakest divisions in the league, the AFC South, their postseason aspirations would have been in jeopardy with a 7-4 record. What they did prove is that they are not ready to compete against the big boys in the American Conference after also losing to the Bills, Chiefs and Bengals this year.
Denver Broncos (9) vs Baltimore Ravens (10)
What looked like it would be a long afternoon for the Ravens ended with some good news, as in addition to the win that keeps them as leaders of the AFC North, with a record of 8-4, QB Lamar Jackson, who left in the first quarter with a knee injury, dodged a major injury.
Tyler Huntley took his place and oversaw a final offensive drive of more than 90 yards, giving his team the win with 24 seconds remaining in the game.
On the Broncos’ side, this was their fourth consecutive loss and in that span they have scored just 45 points. Russell Wilson continues his abysmal performance and in Denver, with a 3-9 record, the season is long over.
Cleveland Browns (27) vs Houston Texans (14)
The Browns are not giving up hope for the postseason and thanks to a great job by their special teams and defense , they managed to defeat the worst team in the league to leave a 5-7 record, two wins behind the last team in the AFC wild card.
After serving an 11-game suspension, Deshaun Watson made his Cleveland debut, but it was not a good one, with only 131 passing yards and an interception. With a kickoff return that resulted in a 76-yard touchdown, an interception, and a fumble that the Browns defense recovered in the end zone, his team managed to save the day.
There is not much to say about Houston’s side. Their offense is one of the worst in the circuit, and their defense could do little to prevent the tenth loss of the campaign that puts them on track for the first overall pick in next year’s draft.
Seattle Seahawks (27) vs Los Angeles Rams (23)
With the postseason in their sights, the Seahawks won a very important game against the Rams, who now have six losses in a row and secured their first campaign with a negative record in the last six years under Sean McVay.
Geno Smith had the best game of his career, throwing for 367 yards and three touchdowns, a performance this Seattle team needed to climb back into the wild-card spots with a 7-4 record after two consecutive losses. The QB was the star of his team by leading a winning offensive series when they were down 20-23 on the scoreboard.
In Los Angeles, it is already a given that they will be unable to honorably defend the championship they won the previous season, and they are currently off to the worst start for a defending champion. Matthew Stafford and receiver Cooper Kupp are also unlikely to play again this season.
Miami Dolphins (17) vs San Francisco 49ers (33)
The 49ers got a bittersweet win over the Dolphins on Sunday after quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was forced to miss the rest of the season due to a broken foot.
Garoppolo and Trey Lance were injured, so San Francisco turned to rookie Brock Purdy, the final selection in last year’s draft, who answered with two touchdown passes, to take over the offense. However, the key to the game was again the impressive defense of the 49ers.
They got their fourth win in a row and remain at the top of the NFC West with an 8-4 record after adding three interceptions, two of them to Tua Tagovailoa, who also recorded a fumble. The Dolphins were coming off four straight games scoring at least 30 points and lost the AFC East lead by falling to 8-4 .
Kansas City Chiefs (24) vs Cincinnati Bengals (27)
The Bengals have established themselves as the Chiefs’ arch-enemy and have now defeated the American Conference’s top team three times this year.
A great performance by Joe Burrow, with 286 yards thrown and two touchdowns, plus another rushing touchdown, was enough for Cincinnati to stay in the hunt for the Ravens with an 8-4 record. The defense’s performance, which kept Kansas City, the league’s best offense, scoreless for the duration of the last quarter, was also noteworthy.
Patrick Mahomes also did everything he could to lead the Chiefs’ offense, but he came up short in the fourth quarter in his attempt to avenge last season’s AFC Championship Game loss. The loss also caused them to lose the first place in the Conference by matching the Bills with a 9-3 record, a team that already beat them this year and therefore has the advantage over them.
Los Angeles Chargers (20) vs Las Vegas Raiders (27)
Even though it might already be too late for the Raiders, they are still on fire and optimism is still high. Additionally, the satisfaction of defeating divisional rivals the Chargers is a strong motivator for the remaining five games.
The development of Derek Carr in the heart of the Las Vegas offense and Josh Jacobs’ running, who once again surpassed 100 rushing yards, have been crucial to this awakening. The quarterback threw twice for touchdowns of more than 30 yards with Davante Adams, but the defense intercepted Justin Herbert five times.
The loss is a tough blow for a Los Angeles team that is 6-6 and out of the postseason standings, with the Raiders, at 5-7, right on their heels. This is the third loss in the last four games for a Chargers team very inconsistent in its performance.
Indianapolis Colts (19) vs Dallas Cowboys (54) – Sunday Night Football
After the Cowboys defeated a Colts team that gave up 33 points in the fourth quarter to earn their ninth victory of the year, Week 13’s Sunday Night Football saw a bloodbath on the field.
After forcing five turnovers from the Indianapolis offense, which was trailing by only two points in the third quarter, Dallas’ defense emerged as the game’s dominant force. However, a forgettable performance against one of the league’s top defenses by Matt Ryan and company extended their terrible season.
In the middle of Dallas’ offense, Dak Prescott was largely limited to throwing three touchdown passes and 170 yards. The Cowboys added four more rushing touchdowns, giving them a total of eight, and making them the first team to do so since the Patriots in the 2012 season.
New Orleans Saints (16) vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers (17) – Monday Night Football
The final six minutes of Monday Night Football between the Saints and Buccaneers were the most exciting of a game plagued by offensive mistakes and a lack of red zone punch.
Once again, the star of the show was Tom Brady, Tampa Bay’s quarterback, who after a rather mediocre performance during the entire game led his team to two offensive scoring drives in the fourth quarter, including the winning drive that ended with a TD pass with eight seconds left in the game.
The Saints’ defense did a great job throughout the game, stopping in their tracks a Buccaneers’ offense that has struggled mightily this year. On New Orleans’ final two offensive series, though, the team was unable to convert a first and ten, which would have at least slowed down the possession clock and given the legendary QB a chance to reverse the score.
