Betting on the New England Patriots
The Patriots have complicated their postseason aspirations after their second consecutive loss, and after dropping out of the AFC wild card spots.
Bill Belichick’s team has failed to execute defensively in recent weeks and it has cost them dearly. They have allowed just 23 points in its previous string of three consecutive wins, including two games in which they achieved just three touchdowns. In the last two games against the Vikings and the Bills, the team has conceded a total of 57 points. That is considered an unhelpful record taking into account that the Patriots’ offense is one of the worst in the league this campaign.
With 249 points scored, New England’s offense has the 10th lowest scoring percentage in the league, while its quarterbacks have thrown just 12 touchdown passes and have been intercepted 10 times. The ground game has not worked either, as they are ranking eighth in TDs scored with only nine, and as they share with the Broncos the lowest percentage of touchdown effectiveness in the red zone with only 37.5% .
Betting on Arizona Cardinals
If the Patriots’ chances of advancing to the postseason look slim, the Cardinals’ are practically impossible after suffering two consecutive losses at home before last week’s bye.
The Arizona team has been a complete disaster, especially on the defensive end, where they are third in points conceded this year with 321 points. Opponents have scored 260 first downs, the sixth-highest total in the circuit, and share with the Chiefs and the Steelers the highest amount of touchdowns conceded with 24. To that we must add that they are ranking ninth as a team with the fewest QB catches with 23, and that they are the worst team defending the red zone by receiving 31 TDs on 45 occasions for a 68.9% effectiveness rate of its opponents.
The offensive side doesn’t get any better. Kyler Murray has failed to live up to the expectations of his new contract, and after reaching the postseason last campaign, the Cardinals are a long way from doing so this time around. Their 4.9 yards per play is the fourth lowest rate in the league, and through the air, where they have 15 TDs and nine interceptions, they share the lowest average in net yards per pass at 5.2. However, the few times they reach their opponent’s red zone, they make the most of it, being effective almost 68% of the time.
JefeBet Prediction
Although the Cardinals’ defense has not had its best season, this Monday they will host an offensive line that has a lot of trouble scoring and hurting their opponents.
Likewise, the Patriots should once again perform well defensively against an Arizona offense that has been well below expectations. In addition, four of the last five meetings between the two teams the under has been obtained.
Prediction: Under (NE 23 – ARI 17).
