Betting on the New Orleans Saints
Despite playing for four games under .500, New Orleans could still fight for the NFC South lead by winning all of its games and waiting for other results.
The main problem for the Saints is that their offense has been a real disaster: in the last six games, they have only surpassed 20 points twice. While the offense has been trying to make a difference with the passing attack, New Orleans has multiple problems: they are seventh in fewest rushing TDs with seven, their 22 fumbles are the third most in the league, and they are also undisciplined, ranking fourth in penalties with 92.
Due to these offensive issues, the defense, which in the previous seven games has only given up more than 20 points once, hasn’t been able to accomplish anything. Although the Saints’ defense has recovered the fewest fumbles (10), it only allows the seventh-lowest average yards per play (5.1), their secondary is tied for sixth in the number of passing touchdowns allowed (16) and they are fourth best in the red zone, allowing touchdowns on only 50% of visits.
Betting on the Cleveland Browns
The Browns are two games out of the last AFC wild card and while they have many teams ahead of them, winning all of their games could give them a shot at the postseason.
To do so, they have a good opportunity to triumph at home against an opponent that has not fared well away from home. Moreover, Cleveland’s defense has improved a lot in the last few games by allowing 17 or fewer points in three of its last four. The Browns’ greatest issue is stopping the ground game, but they try to make up for it when their opponents enter the red zone.
Throughout the campaign, the offensive unit has played effectively, thus the addition of Deshaun Watson doesn’t seem to have benefited it. Despite being 13th in the league with 313 goals scored, they have failed to score more than 13 points in either of the last two games. Despite their struggles with passes, they have one of the top rushing attacks in the league, ranking fifth in total yards with 2,086 and fourth in touchdowns with 18.
JefeBet Prediction
The points line entices and tempts bettors, but with these two clubs’ erratic play, the odds are seriously deceptive. An example would be the Saints’ six Over and eight Under records this season compared to the Browns’ seven Overs, six Unders, and one tie. All very even.
Cleveland may have the advantage in this matchup, though. In addition to being terrible on the road, New Orleans’ offensive hasn’t been effective in a while, and the Browns have been playing excellent defense.
Prediction: Browns Spread (NO 16 – CLE 20).
