Betting on the Pittsburgh Steelers
With nothing to look forward to in the postseason, the Steelers can only try to avoid the last place in the AFC North, which they share with the Browns.
Pittsburgh’s offense is one of the worst in the league, and that is exemplified by the 170 points scored so far, the fourth-lowest figure in the circuit. Neither Kenny Pickett nor Mitchell Trubisky have been the solution to Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement, and overall the Steelers QBs total just seven TDs and 10 interceptions. As for the red zone, they are underachieving and have converted just 48.4% of their chances into TDs, the sixth-lowest figure in the league.
Defensively, the most notable aspect has been their work to stop their opponents’ ground attack. They have allowed just 1,034 yards and the five TDs conceded are the third-lowest figure. The secondary’s performance is the issue; even though it ranks second in interceptions (12), it has allowed the most passing touchdowns (22) and 7.1 net yards per pass to opposing quarterbacks.
Betting on the Indianapolis Colts
With Jeff Saturday at the helm, the Colts have shown a completely different face in the last two games, and the hopes of a postseason berth are still there.
After beating the Raiders, the Indianapolis team nearly pulled off a league upset by losing in the final minutes to the mighty Eagles. The problem for the Colts was again their offensive performance, as they could only manage 284 total yards and for the sixth time this season failed to score more than 16 points. The 173 touchdowns scored are the sixth fewest, plus they match the Saints for the most turnovers with 19 and only convert 43.3% of their red zone visits.
On the defensive side, things are a little better. They are seventh in best average yards per play allowed at 5.0, while in seven of 11 games, opponents have failed to score more than 20 points. However, the Colts are better at stopping the ground attack, allowing just 3.8 yards per rush, the second-lowest figure in the league, and they have scored on only nine occasions.
JefeBet Prediction
While the Under should be a lock in this matchup, we can also look at a win for the Colts, who still have a shot at the postseason and have looked much better under Saturday as head coach.
While the Steelers could stop a Colts’ offense that relies heavily on its ground attack, they struggle to score in Pittsburgh and only managed 17 points away from home in Week 1 against the Bengals.
In the last seven meetings, the home team has a 6-1 record playing against the spread, while the under has come in four of the last five meetings in Indianapolis.
Prediction: Colts Under and Spread (PIT 16 – IND 20).
