- Sam Snead is the winningest player in Wyndham Championship history. He won the event a total of eight times when it was still known as the Greater Greensboro Open.
- Other multiple winners of this tournament are Davis Love III, who won it three times, Byron Nelson, Doug Sanders, Billy Casper, George Archer, Danny Edwards, Sandy Lyle Rocco Mediate, and Brandy Snedeker, who each won two times.
- Speaking of which, the Greater Greensboro Open was held for the first time ever in 1938, with Snead becoming the inaugural champion. He shot an 11-under 271 to beat runner-up Johnny Revolta by five strokes.
- Not including the major tournaments, the Wyndham Championship is the seventh-oldest event on the PGA Tour calendar.
