Favorites
Scottie Scheffler (+650 on DraftKings)
Scheffler arrives in Memphis still ranked as the No. 1 player in the world and second in the FedExCup Playoffs standings with 3,146 points. He is clearly in great form, having finished with a T23 in The Open Championship last month. He went a perfect 20/20 in the regular season and got two twins with 15 top 15s and 19 top 25s along the way. There’s just no way that Scheffler will be viewed as anything lesser than a favorite in the 2023 St. Jude Championship.
Rory McIlroy (+900 on DraftKings)
Third in the FedExCup Playoff standings with 2,304 points to his name, the Northern Irishman capped his regular season with a nice T6 in The Open Championship in Royal Liverpool. His points total becomes even more impressive to look at when considering the fact that he’s only made 15 starts this season. He made the cut in 13 events and had a top-10 finish in 10 of his starts with a pair of runner-ups. McIlroy is also 5/6 at TPC Southwind with two top 10s and three top 25s.
Jon Rahm (+900 on DraftKings)
The Spaniard had a blazing start to the 2022-23 PGA Tour season, having won three times in his first seven starts. Overall, he went 15/17 with 10 top 10s and 12 top 25s. He had a T2 in The Open Championship to recover nicely from a missed cut in the Travelers Championship. And oh, by the way, Rahm is the current leader in FedExCup points with 3,320.
Sleeper Picks
Hideki Matsuyama (+4000 on DraftKings)
Matsuyama finished the regular season winless and capped it with a missed cut in the Wyndham Championship. That being said, he’s 19/23 with a pair of top 10s, so he wasn’t all that bad during the regular season. Don’t also forget that he finished second in the 2021 World Golf Championships-FedEx St. Jude Invitational at TPC Southwind.
Russell Henley (+4500 on DraftKings)
The 34-year-old Henley who is ranked 20th in the world is coming off a solid T2 in the Wyndham Championship. That was a great way to bounce back from a missed cut at Royal Liverpool. He had a win in the regular season when he topped the field in the World Wide Technology Championship way i November.
Dark Horse
Kurt Kitayama (+18000 on DraftKings)
Ranked 23rd in the FedExCup standings, there’s a good chance that Kitayama will make it to the next phase of the playoffs. He snapped a three-start streak of missed cuts with a T54 in the Genesis Scottish Open and followed that up with a T60 in The Open Championship.
El Jefe’s Prediction on 2023 FedEx St Jude Championship
After his T2 in The Open Championship, it just feels that Rahm is due for a win — a big win. Taking Rahm to win this week at TPC Southwind.
