Interesting Facts and Trivia about the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic
- The first-ever staging of the Rocket Mortgage Classic took place in 2019. Nate Lashley won that event by six strokes, edging runner-up Doc Redman to collect the $1.314 million payout for the winner.
- Tony Finau is the reigning Rocket Mortgage Classic champion, as he won the event in 2022 by five strokes. Tied for second were Patrick Cantlay, Cameron Young, and Taylor Pendrith
- The Rocket Mortgage Classic will honor the late son of Dan and Jennifer Gilbert, Nick Gilbert, on the first day of the tournament which will be known as “Bow Tie Day.” Nick Gilbert died last May due to neurofibromatosis complications.
- A Celebrity Scramble event will take place a day before the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic. The event will feature the likes of former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders and ex-Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson along with Detroit Red Wings forward Dyland Larkin and Michigan State Spartans head coach Tom Izzo.
