Interesting Facts and Trivia about the 2023 Sanderson Farms Championship
- Before it became known as the Sanderson Farms Championship, this tournament was originally known as the Magnolia Classic. It all started in 1968 when Mac McLendon won the inaugural edition of this event. After 1985, the event was renamed and became known as the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic from 1986 to 1998. Then it was called the Southern Farm Bureau Classic (1999-2006), and True South Classic (2012).
- Only three players have won this tournament multiple times. They are Dwight Nevil (1973,1974), Brian Henninger (1994, 1999), and Fred Funk (1998, 2004).
- When the tournament started in 1958, the purse was only at $20,000 with McLendon taking home $2,800 for topping the field. In 1996, the purse in this tourney hit $1 million for the first time ever. That year, Willie Wood pocketed $180,0000 for winning the event.
- Mackenzie Hughes is the most recent winner of the Sanderson Farms Championship, as he outlasted Sepp Streka in a playoff in the 2022 edition of this tournament to claim the $1.422 million check.
