Interesting Facts and Trivia about the 2023 Scottish Open
- The first iteration of the Scottish Open was staged in 1972 when it was still known as the Sunbeam Electric Scottish Open. Neil Coles won the inaugural tournament by beating Brian Huggett in the playoffs.
- The Scottish Open has gone through several name/sponsor changes. Apart from the aforementioned Sunbeam Electric Scottish Open, this event was also known in previous years and decades as the Bell’s Scottish Open, the Loch Lomond World Invitational, the Gulfstream Loch Lomond World Invitational, the Standard Life Loch Lomond, the Barclays Scottish Open, the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open, and the Abrdn Scottish Open before it became the Genesis Scottish Open.
- The Scottish Open was not staged from 1974 to 1985 before resurfacing again in 1986.
- Xander Schauffele is the reigning Genesis Scottish Open champion, having won the 2022 edition of the tournament by just one stroke to capture the title and the winner’s prize worth $1.44 million. Kurt Kitayama placed second that year.
