Firstly, Tony Finau is in a very good level of performance, which he demonstrated when he won the Cadence Bank Houston Open on November 13. This season, he is one of the best ball strikers, ranking first in Scoring Average with 674 strokes.

Of the three events he has already played, he has finished in the Top 10 on two occasions. He has already won one and has around $1.8 million in financial gain. He is currently ranked 10th among golfers on the tour, and The American Express is a great opportunity to keep adding points.

Patrick Cantlay (Odds to be defined)

Secondly, Patrick Cantlay has been fairly consistent for several years now, and this PGA season he continues to be dominant when he puts his mind to it. This year he has taken part in two events, and, although he has not been able to lift a trophy, he is not a bad golfer at all.

He finished in second place at the Shriners Childrens Open, where in the first two rounds he shot a 67, but in the third round he connected in impressive fashion and shot a 60. He arrives in California on a mission to add to his $953,000 in wins.

Jon Rahm (Odds to be defined)

Thirdly, the Spaniard is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world. He is currently in fourth place in the FedEx Cup and has everything it takes to win it at the end of the year. This season, he has not been cut from any tournament and has not finished lower than 10th place.

He won the Sentry Tournament of Champions, where he shot a masterful -27 to win $2.7 million dollars. This season alone he has $3.1 million in earnings and, every time he competes, he dominates the field. He already won this tournament in 2018… Will he win again?

Sleeper Picks

Will Zalatoris (Odds to be defined)

The young American is a great golfer: this season, he finished 11th in the Sentry Tournament of Champions, the only tournament he played in. Not bad, huh? His career is quite good, and he would need a win to finish maturing.

It is worth mentioning that in last year’s The American Express, he finished 6th. Thus, his knowledge of the course plus his current performance level may combine to give us all a surprise.

Sam Burns (Odds to be defined)

His main problem is consistency, but he has potential. This season he has played four PGA tournaments and his best participation was in The CJ Cup in South Florida, where he finished 7th.

We chose him as one of the sleeper picks because, in the last two rounds of the Sentry Tournament of Champions, he improved his performance level notoriously: he shot a 67 and a 69, which makes us think that he is in a good level for the Californian course.

Dark Horse

Cam Davis (Odds to be defined)

Cam Davis has played in The American Express three times and finished 3rd in 2021. He has been playing well, having not missed a cut since May of last year. He improves every day, and enters one of his favorite fields. Will he manage to be the dark horse of this edition?
