Luis Fernando Barco
Luis Fernando Barco became the first Peruvian to make his debut in the 121st edition of the US Open in 2021, held at the Torrey Pines course in San Diego, United States.
The golfer, who is now 26 years old, won the gold medal this year at the Bolivarian Games Valledupar 2022, winning in the individual modality. In this way, he closed his participation becoming the first Peruvian golfer to win the gold medal in the history of the Bolivarian Games.
In the last Argentina Open, unfortunately, he missed the cut on the second day. However, he is still one of the best representatives of Latin American golf today.
Eduardo Galdos
Another of the realities in Peruvian golf is that this year finished in the top 5 in the Bobcat North Dakota Open Golf tournament held in the city of Fargo, in the United States. The Peruvian had a total score of 213 strokes (-3) with rounds of 70, 74 and 69 to place in the fifth position, among the best of the tournament, which had a field of almost 80 players.
Ximena Benites
At only 16 years of age, Ximena Benites dazzles in every tournament that sees her take part. Benites was a member of the Peruvian junior amateur team that won the silver medal at the South American Junior Championship, held at Los Inkas Golf Club in Lima.
Teaming up with Luisamariana Mesones and Camila Zignanigo, Ximena comfortably took second place, beating the Argentinean delegation and below the girls from Colombia.
Camila Zignaigo
Camila Zignaigo had an outstanding performance on the Yacht Club Asunción course. For this reason, the Peruvian Golf Federation gave them a special recognition within the framework of the Ladies Gold Cup 2022.
Zignaigo, 15, won three gold medals by winning the women’s singles, the mixed team with Mauricio Tello, and the women’s teams with Alexa Vegas and Ariana Urrea.
Jaime Yzaga
The young golfer, 15 years old, comes from being the national junior champion and is projecting a serious career in this discipline. His last name is not just one more in Peru.
His father, also named Jaime Yzaga, was an important tennis player in the 90s. But the boy chose clubs over racquets and is having a great season: he was the South American champion of mixed doubles teams for juniors in Ecuador and a also finalist in the National Amateur Championship. His identity in golf is assured.
