Favorites
Scottie Scheffler (+600 on DraftKings)
Although he fell short of winning a major over the weekend, Scheffler cooked himself with a solid solo third-place finish at the 2023 US Open. That’s three starts in a row of third-place performances for Scheffler, who is also a perfect 17/17 this season with two wins and 13 top 10s. His wins this season came via the 2023 WM Phoenix Open and 2023 THE PLAYERS Championship. He made the cut twice in three career starts so far at the Travelers Championship, going with T13 back in the 2022 edition of the tournament.
Rory McIlroy (+1000 on DraftKings)
Everyone knows the heartbreak in the final round of the 2023 US Open for the Northern Irishman, but McIlroy should continue to be a favorite in events he’s scheduled to play. He finished runner-up last week to Wyndham Clark and now has cracked the top 10 in each of his last four starts. His only win to date this season happened at the 2022 CJ CUP in South Carolina, but overall, he is 10/12 with seven top 10s. McIlroy is 4/4 at the Travelers Championship, finishing T19 or better in each of those events.
Patrick Cantlay (+1000 on DraftKings)
Cantlay is still looking to win his first tournament of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season. While a victory remains elusive, Cantlay has nonetheless played awesome golf, with 14 cuts in 15 starts. Those include seven top 10s and 12 top 25s. He had a T14 at the recently concluded 2023 US Open and a T9 at the 2023 PGA Championship back in May. And who could forget that he once fired a 60 at TPC River Highlands in 2011 when he was still in the amateur ranks.
Sleeper Picks
Sahith Theegala (+7000 on DraftKings)
The 25-year-old Theegala has not recorded a top-25 finish for four consecutive events now, but on the bright side, he has not missed a cut since way back in October of 2022. He is 21/22 with seven top 10s and 10 top 25s. Some of his best performances this season were a T2 at the 2023 RSM Classic and a T5 at the 2023 RBC Heritage, which came after he had a ninth-place campaign at the 2023 Masters Tournament. Don’t forget as well that Theegala finished tied for second at the 2022 Travelers Championship.
Adam Scott (+7500 on DraftKings)
Scott missed the cut at the Los Angeles Country Club last week, but that was just his first MC this season. He is 12/23 so far in the 2022-23 PGA Tour campaign with three top 10s and four top 25s. In his last appearance at the Travelers Championship, he had a T13 in the 2021 staging of this event. On the season, Scott is 12th overall with a 4.15 birdie average.
Dark Horse
Kevin Kisner (+60000 on DraftKings)
At his price, people should be taking a closer look at Kisner, who is 3/6 at the Travelers Championship with back-to-back top 10s in 2021 and 2022. He finished with a T5 in 2021 and then went T6 the following year.
El Jefe’s Prediction on 2023 Travelers Championship
Rory McIlroy needs to vent out his frustration over his shortcoming at the 2023 US Open. Look for him to turn it on and play great golf from start to finish.
