Week 28 of MLS brought great emotions for every fan. Players who found the net and even some who scored with their team for the first time. Soccer moves forward and so does magic.
That’s why the MLS Player of the Week, chosen by a vote of journalists and fans using social media, gets credit for the fantastic performance he helped his team with over the weekend.
German midfielder Hany Mukhtar was named MLS Player of the Week for Matchday 28 for scoring and leading his team to a 4-1 win over the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, August 31. The talented No. 10 scored his first hat-trick of the season, imposing himself in monumental fashion on his opponents.
This is the second hat trick in the Nashville SC player’s career, the first coming in July of last year in a match against Chicago Fire FC. His outstanding performance led Mukhtar to win the MLS Player of the Week award.
Hany Mukhtar Is MLS Player of the Week for Matchday 28
Hany Mukhtar started the match as a starter and from the start gave ample evidence of possession. He started his scoring show in the 28th minute when the score was still scoreless.
After a foul on Leal in the small area, Mukhtar took the ball, stood on the penalty spot and opened the account with a powerful shot to the right corner.
In the 54th minute, when Colorado had equalized and thanks to a masterful pass from Costa Rica’s Randall Leal, Hany Mukhtar scored the double with a stunning shot. In this way, Nashville took advantage.
At that point, the German was already dressed as a hero. However, the universe had one more prize in store for him. His teammate Shaffelburg was in charge of making it 3-1, but in the 74th minute, Mukhtar remembered that whoever is a gentleman repeats, so with a hard header, he showed why he was the undisputed star of the match.
With this great result, the German midfielder increased his goal streak this year to 19. A number full of records, as his club had never seen this number of goals in a single season. In addition, Knight Mukhtar entered MLS history, becoming only the fourth player in this competition to contribute to 12 goals in a single month.
The stats were amazing and well-deserved, for the hard-working 10, who managed to win the MLS Player of the Week award this week.
In the next matchday, Nashville SC will face LA Galaxy at home. The Yellows currently occupy fourth place in MLS with 45 points.
