The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly shifting pieces in order to agree to a deal for San Antonio Spurs standout point guard Dejounte Murray ahead of the 2022-23 NBA season.

In order to finalize the trade, the Atlanta franchise would be willing to deliver a package with John Collins as the main player, according to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fisher.

It draws a lot of attention to this rumor on the Hawks side, due to the fact that Murray plays the same position as the franchise’s top star, Trae Young. Undoubtedly, in this case, one of the two would have to do assistant duties.

The Spurs, for their part, would reinforce their game with a power forward who is very reliable in the paint and capable of making a good number of shots from mid and long distance.

Should the negotiations remain active, new information about a transaction that would definitely shake up the league will soon come to light.

What Is Dejounte Murray’s Contract With Spurs Like?

Dejounte Murray was Spurs' great figure in 2021/22

Although he is still very young (25 years old), he has already spent five seasons as an NBA player, showing a constant evolution in his level of play, especially on offense.

Murray signed a 4-year, $64 million extension with the Spurs that will earn him $16.5 million in the upcoming NBA season.

Last season, the former University of Washington player’s performance surged, with stats that placed him among the NBA’s finest young players.

After playing 68 regular round games, Murray averaged 21.1 points, 9.2 assists and 8.3 rebounds per game. He also shot 46.2% from the field and 32.7% from three-point range.

We are talking about a man who is capable of doing almost everything well on the court, and his contribution on it could be what the Hawks need to fight for the top of the Eastern Conference, after a season in which they finished the regular round in eighth place, with a record of 43 wins and 39 losses.
