July started with a bang and brings with it a new edition of JefeBet‘s MLB Power Rankings. As we approach the halfway point of the season and the summer officially begins, we begin to spot the teams who will battle for a postseason place and those that will simply wait until the end of the season to forget.
Below, we’ll go through a list of the teams that have excelled and those who have been getting worse in the final week of the Major League Baseball season.
MLB Power Rankings 2022 July 11th
Top 3
Los Angeles Dodgers
While the Yankees still have the best record in MLB with a 61-25 mark, they are 5-5 in their last 10 games, while the Dodgers are still on fire and have only lost one of their last 10 games.
The Los Angeles team has the best record in the National League at 56-29 and has already pulled seven games ahead of their closest rival, the San Diego Padres, after having the sixth-best efficiency in the league in the last week with a 2.95 ERA.
Atlanta Braves
The Braves remain in the hunt for the New York Mets in the East Division of the National League, and are already just a game and a half behind them after winning eight of their last ten games.
Since the beginning of June, the Atlanta ninth inning has a 29-8 record, and last week they showed no mercy to opposing batters by having the greatest efficiency in the Major Leagues with just 1.59, while offensively they had the second-best average with.289.
Seattle Mariners
The Mariners are one of the biggest surprises of the last few weeks and have already moved into the third wild card spot in the American League by winning nine of their last ten games, eight of them in a row.
In Seattle, they swept the Toronto Blue Jays in a four-game series and last week they had the third-best collective EFE in the league with 2.09, which left their record at 45-42.
Bottom 3
Toronto Blue Jays
While they remain tied with the Mariners for the third wild card in the American League, the Blue Jays are in a free fall and were swept in a four-game series by Seattle.
In Toronto, they have lost four in a row and have been defeated nine times in their last ten games. Last week their EFE was 4.12 and despite having, on paper, one of the most powerful offenses in the circuit, in the last seven days they hit only eight home runs and were the fifth team that scored the fewest runs with 17.
Anaheim Angels
It’s hard to believe what happened to the Angelinos. After being 12 games above .500 earlier in the season, Anaheim has lost eight of its last 10 games and is now 38-49, 19 games behind the Houston Astros in the West Division of the American League.
Baltimore just swept them in a four-game series mainly to their horrible offensive performance, as with 16 runs scored in the last seven days, they ranked as the third-lowest scoring team in the Major Leagues.
Washington Nationals
The Nationals are in a coma, and it appears that no one will be able to wake them up until the end of the season, with a 30-58 record and a 1-9 record in their last ten games.
Washington is in last place in the East Division of the National League: during last week, their pitching was the third worst in terms of collective effectiveness, with 5.66. Add to it the fact that they only gave up four home runs and scored 16 runs, the third lowest total behind the Angelinos, and it’s hard to win games that way.
