Boxer Canelo Alvarez is one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world in the welterweight division and that’s reason enough to be afraid of him.

Nigerian UFC fighter Kamaru Usman admitted that he would like to face Canelo Alvarez, but confessed that he is afraid of him.

“This is something I would love to do. I want to test myself that way and I want to have that fear again. I don’t want to say I’m not scared when I fight these guys. I am actually scared. But to go in there with that guy (Canelo), it’s scary. And I definitely thrive in those situations.”

In fact, Usman had requested to face Canelo Alvarez some time ago saying it was something that would make him money: “Yes! I think it can be safe. If there is a correct amount. If it makes money for the company. If it provides dollars, it makes sense.”

It’s something he still has in mind and said that it’s a matter of making a call and asking for the crossover in the ring. “It’s a matter of picking up the phone, making the call and getting it going”.

Usman wants to face Canelo Alvarez or Jake Paul

Although Usman wants a fight against Canelo Alvarez, he is not the only fighter he has in his sights, as he has also shown interest in fighting American Jake Paul.

Usman competes in mixed martial arts in the welterweight category and has recently put forward a proposal to face each other in a boxing ring despite not being a boxing specialist.

The Nigerian asked for a $100 million offer for a boxing fight, but Jake Paul doesn’t think it’s worth that kind of money to face him, as he believes he has no boxing skills. “Usman is not worth $100 million, he’s like a $3 to $5 million guy who is owned by Dana (White). When they let him out of his contract, let’s do it, easy money. I already embarrassed Dana’s company (referring to the UFC) by taking out Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley and I don’t think I want that. It would be too much of a risk for him to let one of his fighters lose to me.”

For his part, Canelo has not commented on Usman’s request, so for now there is no possibility that this will take place.

Usman is the UFC welterweight champion, which places him at #1 in the UFC rankings and is considered one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in his discipline.
