The next few weeks could be big news for Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals after management showed a lot of confidence in finalizing the quarterback’s contract extension.
According to the team’s general manager, Steve Keim, on the Pat McAfee Show, the negotiations are in full swing and before the 2022 NFL campaign begins, the problem should be solved.
“I just think it’s a timing thing. Anyone who has done it before has done it anywhere from July to September. No different for us. We know he is under contract for another year and also the fifth-year option (in 2023). He is our future. We feel that way strongly and I feel like we’ll be able to get something done this summer.”

Murray has been asking for a contract extension since February, and he did not show up for the team’s voluntary workouts that began Wednesday.
The young quarterback is going into his fourth season with the Cardinals, an organization that has already optioned the fifth year of the rookie contract to whom was the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.
The Countless Disagreements between Kyler Murray and the Cardinals
Since the end of the 2021 season, which ended with the Cardinals eliminated in the Wild Card Game by the Los Angeles Rams, the relationship between the two parties has not been the best.
After several ups and downs in which both Murray and Arizona blamed each other for the elimination, the discussion about the contract extension came to heat things up a little more.
The Cardinals had made an offer to Kyler Murray in February, which he turned down. The organization immediately indicated that it would continue betting on the young quarterback and closed any exchange option by making the option of the fifth year of the contract available.
Murray responded to this move by thanking the team for their confidence and noting that he hopes to stay in Arizona for many more years, for which he asked to reach a contract agreement soon — something that could arrive in the coming weeks and end this drama once and for all.
