The relationship between Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens has not been the best in recent months, and a possible example of this is the absence of the quarterback on the team’s first day of voluntary training.
While Jackson’s absence was rumored early on Wednesday, Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed the news to ESPN’s Jamison Hensley in the afternoon.
Although the presence of Lamar Jackson is not mandatory in the so-called OTAs (Organized Teams Activities), it is the first time in his four years with the organization that the quarterback has not attended them from day one.
“I’ll just let Lamar speak for himself on that. It’s for him to talk about.”

Jackson’s absence got even more bizarre after yesterday, via his Twitter account, the star quarterback emphasized that he couldn’t wait to return to training with the Ravens, responding to a tweet from the team about the beginning of the OTA.
Lamar Jackson’s Contract Problems
Although Lamar Jackson’s absence was due to this is not confirmed, it is customary in the NFL for players upset by their contractual situation to take measures such as that of the quarterback’s.
Once the next NFL campaign begins, the MVP of the 2019 season will enter the last year of his rookie contract without knowing his future within the organization.
And while the Ravens have indicated on multiple occasions that they want to negotiate a contract extension with their first pick of the NFL Draft in 2018, the discussion with the quarterback is somewhat complex not only because of his personality, but also because he does not have an agent to represent him, so the negotiations are directly with him.
Even Baltimore general manager Eric DeCosta declared in early May that the situation had not changed, despite the fact that Jackson has hinted on many occasions that he does not want to leave the Ravens.
