In addition to being one of the greatest players in NBA history, LeBron James is recognized off the board for his great contribution to society throughout the United States and especially in Cleveland.
On this occasion, the Los Angeles Lakers player received a great help for his community work after rapper Drake, a loyal follower of basketball and gambling, won in a virtual roulette game, on the betting page Stake.com, by hitting the black 11.
Thanks to this profit, Drake met with James to notify him that he would like to support the work done by the LeBron James Family Foundation with $1M dollars in Bitcoins, something that has become common in the rapper after succeeding in his recurring bets.
“Stake’s Eddie and I are going to dedicate $1 million to ‘I Promise School,’ and I’m going to go and leave him personally before the end of the school year,” Drake told James, in a video posted on the rapper’s Instagram account.
“Drake is a special friend of our family and we are working closely with his team to finalize the details of this donation to the LeBron James Family Foundation,” a foundation spokesperson told cleveland.com.
During the dinner that was hosted by the city of Toronto and the prestigious restaurant Harbour 60, Drake and James not only shared the great moment of the million dollars, as the singer had a great surprise for Michael, a basketball player from a high school who is on his way to a university career, by properly firing him by donating $100,000 to him and his mother.
LeBron James and His Foundation’s Contributions
The “I Promise School” is LeBron James’ great contribution to the Akron community. This is a public school that opened in 2018 to help young people in the area who are underperforming in reading, math, and other academic areas. The Lebron James Family Foundation provided $2 million to open the school that offers year-round resources, access to opportunities, skills development, comprehensive support for more than 1,300 students from Akron’s other public schools, and college scholarships for those who excel in their performance.
But the “I Promise School” is not the only initiative of the LeBron James Family Foundation. They currently have a more ambitious plan that includes the transformation of a 60,000-square-foot community and multipurpose center. The complex, which is called “House Three Thirty” (house 330, which represents the area code covering Akron, Canton and Youngstown) is scheduled to open sometime next year and will serve as a unique opportunity for members of the family and community of “I Promise” as it will help develop its potential by offering financial education, job training resources, recreation opportunities, monthly meals, among other benefits.
