After being released from his contract by the New York Knicks since he underwent foot surgery that kept him inactive from the beginning of the season, Luca Vildoza will once again have the opportunity to make his NBA debut with the Milwaukee Bucks after agreeing to terms on a two-year contract with the franchise led by head coach Mike Budenholzer. Now fully recovered from his surgical procedure, the shooting guard is available to the team immediately.
As the deadline to add players for the post-season is April 10, the Argentinean will be part of the roster of the Bucks for the playoffs and will take DeAndre’ Bembry’s place after Bembry suffered a serious knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Vildoza decided to leave his former team, Baskonia of Liga ACB, Spain’s professional basketball league, for a chance to play in the NBA even though he had success on the European continent.
Luca Vildoza’s Recent Career
In his last season he averaged 10.9 points, 1.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.6 steals in 27 domestic league games (42% efficiency overall and 35.5% in three-pointers), while in the Euroleague he had a similar performance, with 10.1 points, 2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in 31 games. His greatest achievement with the team was winning the MVP of the ACB League final against FC Barcelona the 2019/2020 campaign.
Vildoza was also part of the Argentine basketball team that won the silver medal at the 2019 FIBA World Cup and the one that participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Milwaukee decided to opt for more reinforcement in its guard rotation instead of directly replacing Bembry, who was a natural small forward. Vildoza will take some of the pressure off Jrue Holiday, George Hill and Grayson Allen in games that warrant it, with the opportunity to be part of a Bucks team that is shaping up to defend its title as one of the favorites to win the NBA title again.
