Marcelo Flores announced on his social networks that he has made a decision regarding the country he will represent, since he had three options: Canada, England, and Mexico. Do you want to know which country he chose?
Marcelo Flores made a decision and it is final. The 18-year-old striker who plays for Arsenal in England had a choice. He was born in Canada and is the son of a Canadian mother of English descent and a Mexican father, and currently lives in England.
He had been monitored by the three teams mentioned above, and they called him to participate in lower categories. But it seems that the fact of having been taken into account by the Mexican senior team in December 2021, has given Marcelo Flores enough security and confidence to decide to represent the Aztec country throughout his career.
This Monday on his social networks, the young striker made the announcement officially and assured that his decision is final.
Which Country will Marcelo Flores Represent?
On his Instagram account, Marcelo Flores appears with the Mexican National Team jersey and gives his message: “Hello, this letter is very important to me. I have thought for a long time what to write, and I am ready to share it with you.”
In the letter, the Arsenal young striker admits his privilege in having all three nationalities:
“I have always known that this day would come sooner or later. I am currently 18 years old but since a few years ago I have been aware of the footballing privilege I have being able to represent 3 different National Teams.”
In the text, Marcelo Flores reviewed what he had thought before he made a decision, but revealed that only with Mexico has he felt truly identified.
“The reality is that there has only been one National Team in which I have felt identified. Mexico has given me and my sisters the opportunity to feel at home, even when our home is thousands of kilometers away.”
And although he declared his love for Canada, England, and Mexico, his decision is to represent Mexico:
“I will represent the Mexican National Team for the rest of my professional career.”
Marcelo Flores is currently starting in Arsenal’s Under-23 category and has trained with the first team, but has not yet made the leap.
He was summoned by the coach of the Mexican National Team, Gerardo Martino, for the friendly match against Chile on December 8, 2021, and in total he has 37 minutes with the Aztec squad.
