Marquez Valdes-Scantling will sign with the Kansas City Chiefs for three seasons and $30 million.

One of the most surprising news during free agency was the arrival of catcher Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins. The player had been one of the superstars of the Kansas City Chiefs forming a great duo with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with whom he managed to win Super Bowl LIV. The receiver decided to change the air and now left a void in the Chiefs’ offense.

In an attempt to fill the vacant spot, the Kansas franchise acquired the services of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, a former Green Bay Packers player, who will serve a three-year term.

According to NFL network journalists Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero, the deal will be for $30 million.

Pelissero reported that for incentives, Valdés-Scantling could receive a maximum of $36 million dollars.

For their part, the Chiefs announced the news of Marquez Valdés-Scantling’s lead with a message on their official Twitter account, in which they said it was time to get to work.

It’s a surprise that Marquez Valdes-Scantling is coming to the Chiefs, as he was shaping up to be a New Orleans Saints player.

The Saints offered him a two-year contract this offseason, and everything seemed to indicate that the receiver was sure to reach that franchise, but at the last minute he decided to go to Kansas to try to be Mahomes’ favorite target. It was also said that the Packers tried to get him to stay at least one more year, but the player rejected any proposal that did not involve a long term and that led him to the Chiefs.

Valdes-Scantling came to the NFL in 2018 after being drafted by the Packers. During his four seasons with the Green Bay franchise, the receiver racked up 2,153 yards, 123 receptions and 13 touchdowns.

In the 2020 season, he set his personal records with 690 yards and six touchdown receptions, and led the NFL with 20.9 yards per reception.

Last year he struggled to replicate his numbers, as he recorded 26 receptions, 430 yards and three touchdowns in 11 appearances.

Valdes-Scantling isn’t the only receiver acquired by the Chiefs, as they also acquired the services of former Pittsburgh Steelers player JuJu Smith-Schuster.

Kansas City will try not to notice Hill’s absence, and will try to continue divisional successes, as they have won six titles in the AFC West in a row, boasting one of the most productive defensive lines in the NFL.

We will have to wait for the preseason games to see the adaptation of the quarterback and the receiving corps.
