One of the most followed sagas is the possible departure of Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards, either by a change or through free agency, and the Miami Heat is one of the main interested in getting the star of the capital team, specifically during the next NBA free agency.
According to the latest report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, the team led by Erik Spoelstra has every intention of acquiring the services of the 28-year-old guard in the circumstance that he wants a change of scenery for the next campaign, and in this way try to form a super-team with Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo. Opinions around the league consider the Heat a very serious candidate if Beal decides to leave Washington through free agency.
Not everything is rosy for Miami, though: much of the league believes the three-time All-Star will most likely renew with the Wizards for a maximum contract extension, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the entire sport (with figures of about $245B over the next five years).
In addition to this possibility, the Heat will also have to have several pieces to acquire Beal because Washington will not give him to one of his division rivals for anything: they will need to reach an agreement in a sign-and-trade in which Miami could have players as important as Tyler Herro, Duncan Robinson and several first-round picks in future drafts.
Bradley Beal is injured at the moment, and he will not return this season after undergoing surgery on his left wrist to repair the rupture of one of his ligaments in it. Although he had a low-key campaign (23.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 6.6 assists in 40 games played), a whole year ago he was competing with Stephen Curry for the title of NBA leading scorer, finishing the 2020-2021 season with an average of 31.2 points, 4.7 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 1.2 steals in 60 games.
The Wizards’ #3 would be a monumental addition for Miami who remains at the top of the Eastern Conference with a 47-24 record proving to be so far the team to beat and favorite to reach the NBA Finals. On the other hand, the Wizards are virtually eliminated already from contention for a place in the play-in tournament, with a 30-40 record and four and a half games behind the Atlanta Hawks, the tenth place in the conference.
