In one of the National League East Division classics, this weekend’s Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves begins a three-game series that welcomes the final month of the regular round in Major League Baseball.
With little to fight for, the Marlins come to Georgia to try to trip up one of their division rivals and to end a streak of four consecutive defeats, whereas the Braves remain in the hunt for the Mets at the top of the division, staying at home bodes well for the Mets, having the third best home record on the old circuit(44-25).
Predictions and Betting Preview for the Miami Marlins vs Atlanta Braves MLB Game 1 on September 2, 2022
- Where: Truist Park, Atlanta, Georgia.
- When: Friday, September 2, 2022, 7:20 p.m. ET.
Betting on the Miami Marlins
- Season record: 55-75.
- Runline: (+1.5, -145).
- Moneyline: (+150)
- Over/Under: 7.
The Marlins are not in a good momentum for their series against Atlanta and will have their best pitcher on the mound with the intention of getting back to winning ways.
Sandy Alcántara will be opening for the Florida State team after his last start, on August 27 against the Dodgers, when he took another big step towards the Cy Young Award by pitching a complete game with just one run.
The right-hander will be making his third start of the season against the Braves and has been responsible for two of the team’s four wins in the series by allowing just one clean run and striking out 21 after 17 innings of work. Something he will have to repeat after not having much offensive support from his team.
Starting pitcher: Sandy Alcántara (12-6, 2.13 ERA).
Injured: Jon Berti (questionable, hip), Miguel Rojas (questionable, wrist), Jazz Chisholm Jr. (back), Jorge Soler (back), Avisaíl García (hamstring).
Betting on the Atlanta Braves
- Season record: 81-51.
- Runline: (-1.5, -125).
- Moneyline: (-170).
- Over/Under: 7.
The Braves should make the most of this weekend series against one of the weakest teams in the entire circuit, although their matchup against Alcántara could spell trouble for them.
While Atlanta’s offense is one of the best in the National League, as mentioned above, they have not had much luck facing the Marlins’ starter and need to change that, urgently, if they want to keep pace with the Mets.
Another problem the Braves will have to deal with is starter Charlie Morton, who has been inconsistent in his performance this year, and in his only start against the Marlins gave up three runs in 5.1 innings of work.
Starting pitcher: Charlie Morton (6-5, 4.10 ERA).
Injured: Darren O’Day (calf), Orlando Arcia (hamstring), Ozzie Albies (foot).
JefeBet Prediction
The presence of Sandy Alcántara and the Marlins’ offense predicts few runs in the game. The Dominican starter has dominated the Braves’ offense this year, and it shouldn’t be much different this time around with the Cy Young in his sights.
For their part, while Morton has been inconsistent, Miami’s offense is one of the least productive in the Major Leagues and with major absences, due to injuries, their production has been much poorer.
Pick: Under.
