Moreno is on a two-fight roll. after capturing the flyweight title again with a knockout win over Kai Kara-France in the undercard of UFC 277: Peña vs. Nunes 2 July 2022, Moreno met with Deiveson Figueiredo last January and successfully defended his title via TKO. All of Moreno’s last five bouts had a championship belt on the line. He is so used to the high-pressure atmosphere of a UFC title fight, which can’t be said of Pantoja.
The challenger defeated Moreno way back in 2018 via unanimous decision in the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Maia vs. Usman, but that was at a time when Moreno had yet to reach his peak form. And even then, he had two takedowns in that fight to zero by Pantoja. Moreno has 11 submission wins and has never lost in the same manner in his pro career, thus far. He owns a slightly higher takedown average (1.8) in the UFC than Pantoja (1.37) and will enjoy a three-inch reach, and two-inch height advantages.

Sure, Pantoja has yet to experience what it’s like to fight for a belt in the UFC, but he knows he’s built to be in such pressure-packed situations. He’s earned his way to a title fight by winning all of his last three fights, including back-to-back submission victories over Brandon Royval in the undercard of 2021’s UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Gastelum and Alex Perez at UFC 277: Peña vs. Nunes 2 in July 2022.
Pantoja actually has two wins against Moreno, with the other one occurring during an exhibition of The Ultimate Fighter matchup. His record against Moreno still tells a lot about why he is a huge threat to the champion, regardless of how long ago the two last met. Pantoja has an 8-0 knockout record and 10-0 submission slate.
