MMA fans don’t have to use Google to know who Holm is. After all, she is the first one to neutralize Ronda Rousey back in 2015 to become a champion. While she doesn’t have a belt at the moment, Holm is clearly gaining ground after picking p three wins in her last four fights, including a unanimous decision victory against Yana Santos last March at UFC Fight Night: Vera vs. Sandhagen.
Holm is a legitimately potent striker — as legitimate as what her eight knockout victories say about her skills. With a 2.5 reach advantage over Silva, expect Holm to utilize that against the Brazilian, who, while being more of a grappler, might also find it hard to send Holm to the ground. For one, Holm has an excellent 78 percent takedown defense.

Silva knows how big of a fight she has ahead of her. A win against Holm could have her lined up for a title next. “When I knock her out, I’m next for the belt,” the Brazilian told MMA Junkie back in June. Beating Holm is going to be easier said than done, but there are reasons for Silva to feel good about her chances. Silva has never lost via T/KO or submission.
She’s only got one knockout victory but has seven through submissions. The 31-year-old Silva, who is riding a three-fight win streak, which includes back-to-back submission wins against Stephanie Egger and Lina Lansberg is aware that Holm has gotten better at grappling but feels she’s still so much superior to the former champ in that area. “Now she’s improved her game, she’s improved her grappling,” Silva added. “I think it’s more grappling, but my grappling is better.
