Tafa has not seen any action since a no-contest decision back in June’s meeting with Lane. This time around, though, there must be more eagerness for him to defeat Lane, who poked him in the eye in that fight, resulting in the disappointing conclusion. Before that showdown with Lane, Tafa had a two-fight win streak going, having scored knockout wins over Harry Hunsucker in UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs. Daukaus and against Parker Porter in UFC 284: Makhachev vs. Volkanovski. Tafa is a heavy-handed hitter with all of his six wins coming via knockouts.
Four of those victories also happened in the first round. So far in his UFC career, Tafa has an average of 5.02 significant strikes landed per minute. He definitely prefers fighting on his toes, which has always been the case for him, in part because of his impressive takedown defense (100% success rate).

- Odds: +195
- Record: 12-3-0, 1NC
- Age: 35
- Height: 6′ 6″

Lane will try again. After failing to get a win in his UFC debut (versus Tafa), the Bulldog Boxing fighter will look to pull off a no-doubter this coming weekend. Even though he had zero experience in the UFC prior to his fight against Tafa which ended abruptly, Lane has always been a big threat.
He was on a six-fight win streak before June’s scheduled fight opposite Tafa, including a highlight knockout victory in the first round over Richard Jacobi in last year’s Dana White’s Contender Series: Season 6, Week 9. In three UFC/Dana White Contender Series fights, Lane has averaged 4.33 significant strikes landed per minute while absorbing only 167 per minute. He has a six-inch reach advantage over Tafa and is also six inches taller than the Australian.
El Jefe’s Prediction on Justin Tafa vs Austen Lane
