  • Odds: -286
  • Record: 16-3-0

  • Weight: 61 kg
  • Reach: 170 cm

No Mercy is the nickname of this Russian, and that slogan says it all: half of his victories came before the limit, seven by KO and one by submission. Petr Yan won the 2020 bantamweight title against Brazilian José Aldo, but the joy lasted just eight months.

In March 2021, an illegal knee caused him to be disqualified in his first defense, against New York’s Aljamain Sterling. In this way, he lost the crown and could not regain it when he got his revenge a year later: Sterling won again, this time in a split decision. A very good win over Cory Sandhagen in the middle certifies that Yan is one of the best bantamweights in the UFC.

  • Odds: +225
  • Record: 15-1-0
  • Age: 27
  • Height: 1.80 m
  • Weight: 61 kg
  • Reach: 183 cm

The first thing to note about Sean O’Malley is that he is a furious knockout: only three of his fifteen wins have come on the cards. Eleven KO’s and one submission prove that the Montana man is a match to watch for the Russian Yan.

In 2018, he signed with UFC and since then he participated in eight fights, among which is his only defeat: the Ecuadorian Marlon Vera knocked him out in one round. O’Malley’s last fight left a bittersweet taste. It was in July, in Las Vegas, where his duel with Brazilian Pedro Munhoz ended without a decision due to a controversial action by O’Malley that was not sanctioned.

Sean O’Malley’s destructive power has to be seriously taken into account by Petr Yan. However, the Russian looks like a more balanced fighter and a better prospect for this matchup, which we believe he will win on the cards.

Prediction: Petr Yan wins by unanimous decision.
