The UAE Emirates team has the great Tadej Pogacar, two-time Tour de France champion and one of the favorites for this edition of the Grand Tour. Its general manager is Giuseppe Saronni, a former professional cyclist, world champion and two-time winner of the Giro d’Italia.
On the other hand, Joxean “Maxtín” Fernández was the manager of Etixx-Quick Step between 2015 and 2017. In the same year, he was signed by UAE Emirates as team manager. With him, the team has had incredible results. Now, after stage 15 of the Tour de France, Fernandez announced that he is interested in adding Nairo Quintana to UAE Emirates.
Uae Emirates’ Director’s Words About Nairo Quintana
In a broadcast on Caracol Radio, Maxtín talked about the chances of Nairo Quintana joining UAE Emirates:
Anyone is not surprised by Nairo Quintana, lacks Nairo’s quality background. Everyone who follows cycling understands that Nairo Quintana will always be an important racer, protagonist, aggressive rider, and, above all, a climber with Colombian characteristics. He’s also one of the climbers who adjusts best to the conditions that climbers face.
Nairo is an expert at defending himself against the wind, with echelons, defending himself in instances of cuts and descents, and he has an exceptional reading of the race. Anyone who is not surprised by Nairo Quintana is not familiar with international cycling.

In addition, he continued:
I can assure you that I have spoken with Nairo and that I get along very well with him. He has been offered to us; he is a rider I would like to work with. These are conversations we’ve had, and I’d like to do it. We know Nairo is a champion and we want to grow as a team.
I would love to have him; I don’t deny it; I’ve spoken with him and, without a question, I appreciate him as a cyclist and a person.
These statements are impressive and could mean a future relationship between the Arab team and the Colombian rider. Given this scenario, the Colombian rider could surely be Tadej Pogacar’s teammate.
As a result, Nairo might switch teams if UAE Emirates gives him a genuine offer that the Colombian can consider.
