Everything is ready for a new college American football season to begin this Saturday, August 27, and one of those games will be Nevada Wolf Pack vs New Mexico State Aggies, both with new head coaches on their benches.
Last season, Nevada went to the Quick Lane Bowl after finishing with an 8-5 mark in the Mountain West, while New Mexico State will look to win at least three games for the second time since the 2011 season.

Following Jay Norvell’s departure to Colorado State, coach Ken Wilson arrives at the Nevada bench with the mission of keeping the Wolf Pack among the top teams in the Mountain West. Something that will not be very easy considering the number of pieces that left the team during the summer.
With Norvell’s departure, quarterback Carson Strong and wide receiver Romeo Doubs also transferred. So Wilson will have to try new pieces that will work for his offensive plan focused mainly on the ground game, which could be led by running back Toa Taua.
That same ground attack could spell disaster for an Aggies defense that, while coming into this new season invigorated, allowed more than 500 yards and 40 points per game last year. Let’s see how quickly the head coach’s hand is reflected, although a new season with a positive record is not guaranteed.

Nex Mexico State also has a new regime with the arrival of Jerry Kill, who comes in to replace Doug Martin after nine seasons as head coach of the Aggies, who finished the 2021-2022 season with a 2-10 record and, in the last 20 years, they have had only one harvest with a positive record.
Kill, like his new colleague in Nevada, is an expert in the ground attack and will try to exploit this area of the team with the new pieces that arrived after the departure of his starting quarterback, Jonah Johnson.
However, the toughest job for the new head coach will be to improve one of the nation’s worst defenses last season. For them, the Aggies moved well in the transfer portal and strengthened their secondary, something they can continue to build on when they face a Wolf Pack that is also adapting to a new offensive system.
