The New York Jets continue their quest to strengthen their team for the upcoming 2022 NFL campaign, and recent reports indicate that officials have inquired about the possibility of trading for two of the league’s top wide receivers in DK Metcalf and A.J. Brown.

This is not the first time that the New York Jets try to upgrade that position with a high quality player, as they had an approach to Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill, but the player would ultimately opt for the Miami Dolphins. A similar story occurred with Brandin Cook, who was also scouted by the New York Jets before the player signed a two-year contract extension with the Houston Texans.

However, it may have been for the best as both Metcalf and Brown are very young players with excellent upside, but have already established themselves as some of the best at their position since making their NFL debuts, and both are also uncertain about their teams awaiting a new contract. So the New York Jets are looking to take advantage of the situation to keep either of them.

Metcalf, who debuted with the Seattle Seahawks in 2019, has been already called to the Pro Bowl in 2020 after an outstanding campaign in which he ran for a total of 1303 yards and scored ten touchdowns, plus he had 83 total receptions on 129 attempts. His numbers in 2021 weren’t bad either, and although he ran for fewer yards (967), he recorded a career-high 12 touchdowns.

2020 also saw A.J. Brown get called to the Pro Bowl after an outstanding campaign that saw him rush for 1075 yards and score 11 touchdowns. Like Metcalf, his numbers dropped a bit in 2021, but the player’s ceiling remains huge, so the New York Jets know the player could bring a lot to the team although the Titans are reluctant to trade the player .

A Much-Needed Reinforcement for the New York Jets

A big-name wide receiver would surely boost one of the many facets in which the New York Jets failed in 2021 on their way to finishing last in the AFC East division with a 4-13-0 record. The New York Jets finished the season as the 13th lowest yards per pass average in the league at 208.3, and also averaged the fifth fewest points per game at 18.2.

Elijah Moore led the team in yards per reception (538) and was also able to score five touchdowns, which are numbers well below those recorded by the two players targeted by the team in the previous campaign.

Surely the New York Jets will do everything they can to make any of these moves happen as the franchise looks to return to postseason play for the first time since 2010.
