After going through the league for a new head coach, The Los Angeles Lakers found in Darvin Ham the ideal man to lead the team in the coming seasons, and the coaching staff of the former Milwaukee Bucks assistant seems to be taking shape for the upcoming NBA season.

Ham comes with a good reputation to the team after being part of the staff that won the NBA finals in 2021, and the 48-year-old coach is considering to count on the help of a former teammate in his first NBA head-coaching job. This is Rasheed Wallace, with whom he coincided in his career as a player in the Detroit Pistons between 2004 and 2005, with both staying with the title of champions in 2004, ironically beating the Lakers.

The head coach of the University of Memphis, Penny Hardaway, mentioned that Wallace could move to Los Angeles after being part of his coaching staff during the 2021/22 season.

I think Rasheed might be going to LA with Darvin Ham. That was the deal from the beginning. If Darvin had gotten a job last year, Rasheed had already promised him that he was going to go with him. So, I’m thinking this year, with him getting the Lakers job, (Wallace) might still be going along with that process.

However, beyond the intentions of Ham and Wallace to work together, neither of the parties has finished reaching an agreement for Wallace to join the coaching staff, but everything seems to indicate that it will be a matter of time before the announcement is made official.

What Could Be Expected From Rasheed Wallace as Part of the Darvin Ham Staff?

The Los Angeles Lakers seem to lack attitude this season by missing out on the postseason despite having big names on their roster. The arrival of Rasheed Wallace on Darvin Ham’s coaching staff could be a major factor in the morale and attitude of the squad.

Wallace during his playing career was characterized as an aggressive and direct player who was not afraid of confrontations, and if he maintains the same attitude until now, that could motivate the Lakers to do what they are theoretically called to achieve for the next campaign 2022/23.
