After his defeat in the quarterfinals of the Miami Open 2022, Daniil Medvedev underwent a hernia surgery that could keep him out of the courts for up to two months, as announced by the player himself through his social networks.

The 26-year-old Russian revealed that he has been dealing with a small hernia recently, which limited his performance physically on the court, especially in the first couple of Masters 1000 of the season, where he lost to Gael Monfils at Indian Wells and against Hubert Hurkacz at the Miami Open.

The second Grand Slam of the season, the Roland Garros, will be played in May, so it is quite possible that Medvedev will have to miss the tournament. However, details regarding the recovery of the player, who in the current campaign has not shown the same solidity of 2021, should be announced in the coming weeks.

Since his dramatic five-set loss to Rafael Nadal in the 2022 Australian Open final, the European tennis player has lowered his level whatsoever, and it is reflected in the fact that he failed to reach the final in his next three tournaments, including a semifinal loss to “Rafa” at the Acapulco Open.

In the absence of the current world number two for the Monte Carlo Masters 1000, Alexander Zverev will fill the vacant spot at the bottom of a main draw that will feature Novak Djokovic, who is making his return to compete for the second tournament for him of the season.

In the current ATP campaign, the Russian tennis player has yet to win a title and has a record of 16 wins and 5 losses.

Medvedev’s highlights in the first three months of 2022 came at the Australian Open, where he was just one set away from winning the championship trophy.

In addition, he managed to reach the top of the ATP ranking, a joy that only lasted a week due to his defeat against Gael Monfils in the round of 32 at Indian Wells.
