In France, before the Grand Prix, it was confirmed that Sebastian Vettel will remain in F1. The driver himself has said he wants to continue in Formula 1 beyond this season, amid speculation about the four-time world champion’s future. Vettel joined Aston Martin after leaving Ferrari on a two-year contract that began in 2021, meaning he will be out of contract at the end of this season.
He is among the four world champions on the grid, having won all of his titles with Red Bull between 2010 and 2013, but has not won a race since 2019. After a slow start to the year for Aston Martin, he is 14th in the drivers’ standings with 15 points. For this reason, Sebastian Vettel’s contract was in doubt about the following years.
Sebastian Vettel to Stay In F1: The Driver’s Statements
However, Vettel said he plans to stay in F1 next year and has opened talks with Aston Martin about extending his contract. “Then obviously, I’ve said that at some point we’ll start to talk, and I’m talking to the team,” he said. The German driver has had stints with BMW Sauber, Toro Rosso, Red Bull, and Ferrari before joining Aston Martin.
“I think there’s a clear intention to keep going, and we’ll see soon where we stand.” Amid speculation over Daniel Ricciardo’s future at McLaren, which has been in doubt since team CEO Zak Brown hinted at mechanisms to terminate his contract earlier this year, Vettel has been linked to the team.
Ricciardo has made it clear that he plans to serve out the final season of his contract with McLaren next year and, while Vettel did not deny talks with the team, he played down the suggestion that he would move to McLaren. “No,” Vettel said. “I obviously know some people there, but I think it’s just rumours.”
Accordingly, the position of several teams could change for next year. Surely, everything will change if the German manages to win races or reach the podium. In four consecutive years, from 2010 to 2013, he was the winner of the Formula 1 World Drivers’ Championship. Although his wins have been down this season, with a better team, he could still make magic.
