Lewis Hamilton is not only a great Formula 1 driver, but also a great human being interested in charity, and he is Britain’s leading sportsman in terms of contributions to charitable causes.
It is well known that athletes earn large sums of money during their careers, but not all of them are interested in helping those in need. Lewis Hamilton, Mercedes-AMG driver, appears in a list published by The Sunday Times, as one of the most generous sportsmen by donating 7% of his capital to charitable causes.
The seven-time Formula 1 world champion has committed himself to several causes, mainly racism and ecology, trying to help in any way he can.
According to the Sunday newspaper, Lewis Hamilton donated part of his capital to foundations to help young people, education, and employment. The British pilot’s voluntary contributions amount to 23 million euros in recent months.
Another sportsman who appears on The Sunday Times list of benefactors is Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah who plays for Liverpool. The “Reds” striker donated 3 million euros to health foundations, and it was revealed that this amount corresponds to 6% of his net worth.
Lewis Hamilton’s Assets
Lewis Hamilton’s net worth is valued at a total of 350 million euros, so contributing 7% to charitable causes is not a big deal for him.
The money that the 37-year-old F1 world champion has is the product of his 15 seasons in the top category of motorsport. In that time, the Briton has won seven world championships, making him one of the two drivers with the most titles, along with Germany’s Michael Schumacher. So far, his record is 184 podiums, with 103 wins and 103 pole positions.
Hamilton’s Current F1 Season
After nine races of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Lewis Hamilton is in sixth place in the Drivers’ Championship with 77 points. He has had several problems in terms of consistency and has only appeared on the podium twice, both times in third place (Bahrain and Canada).
