For the first time since its life in the Uruguayan First Division (2016), Boston River will participate in a Copa Libertadores after having played in the Copa Sudamericana on two occasions.
The Uruguayan team finished fourth in the overall standings last season and now, under the guidance of Venezuelan coach Daniel Farías, is hoping to make a successful appearance in the top continental competition.
Boston is off to a good start in the Apertura 2023 tournament with a win over Racing de Montevideo last weekend. This victory comes as a perfect result to now seek an important victory in the first leg game in front of their fans, the same fans who saw how last year, in the Clausura 2022, their team obtained 11 points in seven games played.

Unlike its rival, Zamora is going to its sixth participation in the Copa Libertadores after years of dominance in Venezuelan soccer. Under the command of Franceso Stifano, La Furia Llanera will have to overcome a very complicated path before returning to the group stage, since if they overcome Boston River, they will then have to play against Huracán of Argentina.
The good news for the Venezuelans is that in their first game of the campaign they achieved a comfortable 2-0 victory over Hermanos Colmenarez, a result that leaves them as leaders of the FUTVE League after one game.
Zamora finished last campaign as the leader of Venezuelan soccer, but did not achieve good results in the playoffs, finishing in fourth place. However, that earned them a tickect to the preliminary phase of the Libertadores and prevented them from fighting for the national title.
