Betting on Cesar Vallejo

Third time’s the charm for Cesar Vallejo, as it finally qualified for a CONMEBOL tournament, having fallen short in the preliminary round of the Copa Libertadores in both 2021 and 2022. The team now makes its return to the Copa Sudamericana for the first time since 2014, where it was knocked out in the quarter-finals by Atlético Nacional.

Cesar Vallejo booked its ticket to this group stage by beating Binacional by 3-1. However, after winning five of its first six official matches in this 2023, the team has deflated a little, since it lost by an identical 2-0 scoreline in the last two local league matches against Sport Huancayo and ADT Tarma.

This will be Cesar Vallejo’s third encounter with an Ecuadorian club, and it’ll hope that the third time’s a charm after suffering defeats in the previous two matches against Barcelona in 2010, losing 3-1 away and 1-2 at home.

Possible Lineup (4-2-3-1): Carlos Grados; Carlos Cabello; Leandro Fleitas, Anderson Villacorta, Juan Quiñones; Aldair Fuentes, Frank Ysique; Alejandro Ramírez, Jairo Vélez, Stefano Olaya; Yorleys Mena.

LDU Quito, one of two Ecuadorian clubs to have lifted this trophy in the entire history, will begin this season trying to emulate what its compatriot Independiente del Valle did in 2022, which was crowned the champion of the competition. However, almost 15 years have passed since LDU Quito’s triumph in the Copa Sudamericana, when it defeated Fluminense by an aggregate of 5-4 in 2009.

Just like Cesar Vallejo, LDU Quito had to play a preliminary stage before the current stage, in which it managed to overcome Delfin by a comfortable 4-0 to obtain a ticket to this Copa Sudamericana for the third consecutive time. That win against Delfin served to start a streak of three straight victories, with its offense looking overwhelming in each of those matches by scoring a total of 12 goals, six of them in the last of those commitments (6-1 against Gualaceo).

This will be LDU Quito’s nineteenth encounter in history against a Peruvian team, and its record in those matches is ten wins, three draws, and five defeats. What’s peculiar is that four of the losses were as visitors, so the team should not be overconfident ahead.

Possible Lineup (4-4-2): Alexander Domínguez; José Quintero, Ricardo Adé, Facundo Rodríguez, Leonel Quiñónez; Renato Ibarra, Óscar Zambrano, Ezequiel Piovi, Alexander Alvarado; Lisandro Alzugaray, José Angulo.

JefeBet Prediction

The fact that this match is taking place at a time when both teams are experiencing a completely different current situation tips the scales heavily in favor of LDU Quito, despite the fact that it will have to play as visitors on this occasion.

After starting 2023 with two matches without a win, the Ecuadorian team has straightened the course, and in a superlative way. On the other hand, Cesar Vallejo showed in the last two games that it is finding it difficult to see its opponents’ goal, and facing a LDU Quito team in a state of grace will not go well for the team.

In addition to this, the Peruvian club has had a difficult time in international matches in recent years, except for the matches against teams from its own country, which encourages us to believe that the visitors will start their participation in this Copa Sudamericana by taking all three points.

Prediction: LDU Quito Moneyline (CES 0 – LDU 2)
