Everything is ready and defined for the Chilean soccer league to start the 2023 season with 16 teams that will give their all to win the national championship.
After several weeks of uncertainty about the format under which the next tournament would be played, the teams ended up voting to maintain the current format, in which30 matches are played throughout the calendar year and in two rounds.
This is the classic format, in which the team with the most points at the end of the 30 games is crowned champion, while the other six top-ranked teams in the standings will be able to participate in the Copa Libertadores or the Copa Sudamericana.
At some point it was thought to return to the Apertura and Clausura Tournament format, which has not been played since 2017, but at the end of several days of intense discussions the latter was discarded.

After the break for the Qatar 2022 World Cup, the different leagues around the world are ready to start, and the Chilean soccer league will start the weekend of January 20, 2023 and the two stages to be played until completing its 30 games will end in November 2023 with no date yet defined.

Favorites
Colo Colo (3/1)
Although the odds for the next championship have not yet been placed at the main bookmakers, there is no doubt that Colo Colo, the current champion and local team with the most league titles (33), is the favorite to repeat its title.
Last season they swept to 63 points, 11 more than Ñublense, their closest rival, and earned a direct place for Copa Libertadores 2023.
Ñublense (8/1)
Since its promotion to the First Division in 2021, Ñublense has left a good impression with its brilliant performance and last season it was Colo Colo’s rival for a long time in its fight for the league.
Two tournaments ago they finished in seventh place, while last year they finished second, 11 points behind the champions, and qualified for the Copa Libertadores.
Universidad Catolica (10/1)
One of Chile’s greatest teams of the last decade will seek to return to their glory days that eluded them last season after winning four consecutive league titles.
With a hegemony of titles from 2018 to 2021, La Católica finished last season in sixth place and is one of the favorites to fight Colo Colo for the league title again.
Sleeper
Palestino (12/1)
In recent seasons, Palestino has been a consistent performer in Chilean soccer in intercontinental competitions and must be taken into account as one of the contenders for the league title.
It will not be easy to fight against solid teams like Colo Colo, Católica and even Ñublense, but little by little they have been developing a good nucleus of players capable of achieving something interesting.
Dark Horse
Universidad de Chile (15/1)
Since the beginning of the new competition format in the 2017 season, Universidad de Chile
has gone from heaven to almost being in hell.
They have been in third place in the standings on a couple of occasions, although in 2019 they were on the verge of relegation, finishing the tournament with just one point above the red zone. However, this year they have a new opportunity to be crowned champions, and they are a good dark horse to beat Colo Colo.

Colo Colo has all the numbers in its favor to repeat its title. The team has maintained many of the players that were crowned champions last tournament, and in the last two seasons has already shown signs of having turned the page on its near-relegation to the second division.
Católica and Universidad de Chile are always rivals to be feared, but Colo Colo is the top national winner and will be looking to win the championship twice in a row.
