Copiapó started losing 1-0 in the 33rd minute by a goal by Yerko Leiva, but managed to recover and evened the match before the halftime, and thanks to a goal made by Maximiliano Quinteros. In the second half of the match, Quinteros scored his brace to give Copiapó its first victory since its arrival in the Chilean Primera Division.
Unión Española 1-2 Magallanes (17/2)
Matchday 5 of the Chilean Primera Division became memorable, as another of the newly promoted teams, Deportivo Magallanes, achieved its first victory. The team defeated Unión Española away by a score of 1-2, ending a four-game winless streak, and leaving the Hispanic team as the only winless team so far this season.
Thomas Jones gave Magallanes the lead before the end of the first half of the match, and in the second half, an own goal by Luis Pavez widened the gap between the two teams. Ignacio Núñez scored a goal for the Santa Laura team in the added time to seal the match with a 1-2 score.
Coquimbo Unido 1-2 Huachipato
Coquimbo Unido was unable to stop Huachipato in matchday 5, and the latter obtained its fourth win in a row, consolidating its position at the top of the standings. Brayan Palmezano opened the scoring for the visiting team in the 39th minute.
In the 61st minute, Rubén Farfán evened the match, but in the 66th minute, Jimmy Martínez put an end to the Pirata‘s hopes and ended the match with a 1-2 score.
Cobresal 1-1 Ñublense
Another of the vibrant duels that was played during the weekend was Cobresal vs Nublense. These teams have not fared too badly in the campaign so far, and a draw in their clash cannot be considered a bad thing, considering that each team has only suffered one loss in the tournament.
The scoreboard opened quickly, as Alex Valdés gave Ñublense the lead in the 4th minute, and a couple of minutes later, Gastón Lezcano made it 1-1. Although the excitement continued in the second half of the match, and the Rojo was reduced to 10 men when Rivera was sent off, there were no more goals scored.
Audax Italiano 1-2 Universidad Católica
Audax Italiano did not take advantage of playing at home, and ended up losing 1-2 to Universidad Católica over the weekend. This is the third win of the season for the Cruzados, a win that was very important for the team as it shortened the gap with Huachipato, who leads the standings.
The Florida side scored the first goal in the 36th minute, made by Gonzalo Ríos, and took the lead at the end of the first half of the match. However, Católica improved its strategy, and with goals from Eugenio Mena in the 60th minute and Cristian Cuevas in the 82nd minute, the team got the three points.
O’Higgins 0-1 Universidad de Chile
O’Higgins continues to have no middle ground this season, and it recently suffered its second defeat by a score of 0-1 against Universidad de Chile. This is the third victory for the U and with it, the team is now positioned in the top four of the standings.
The match was very tight, and it remained tied throughout the 90 minutes, but in the added time, Leandro Fernández broke the deadlock to make it 1-0.
Colo Colo 1-1 Everton
The champion, Colo Colo, was unable to defeat Everton at home and ended reaching a 1-1 draw. The first half was in the hands of Cacique, who tilted the field slightly to its side, and in the 44th minute, Leandro Benegas opened the scoring.
The blow was hard for the team from Viña del Mar, but the break served the team to get onto the field with new ideas, and thanks to a goal by Alejandro Henriquez in the 48th minute, it managed to even the game. In the 79th minute Colo Colo Colo was reduced to 10 players after Maximiliano Falcón was sent off, but no more goals were scored.
Palestino 1-1 Unión La Calera
In the last match of Matchday 5 of the Chilean Primera Division, Palestino and Unión La Calera shared points with a 1-1 draw. The match started with a lot of intensity, and after 10 minutes, Diego Buonanotte scored the first goal to put La Calera ahead on the scoreboard.
In the 19th minute, Jonathan Benítez of Palestino was sent off and when it seemed that the night was coming to an end for the Tricolor, Fernando Cornejo’s goal made it 1-1. In the 56th minute, Leandro Díaz received a red card, leaving each team with 10 players. In the 75th minute, Misael Dávila Carvajal scored for Palestino, but the goal was ruled out by the VAR for being an offside, so there was no change in the score.
