Who Are the 4 Chilean Soccer Players in MLS 2023?

Martín Rodriguez

At 28, the 28-year-old winger has a career that has given him a lot of experience. After joining Huachipato (where he won the league championship), he made the leap to Chilean giants Colo Colo (where he was also crowned champion) and then went on a raid through several Mexican first division clubs, with Cruz Azul as the team where he performed best.

Martin Rodriguez joined MLS’s DC United this year after a good season in Turkish soccer. He was a starter for the U.S. capital club and played in 14 matches, although he did not score a goal. He was not helped by the context, as DC finished in last place in the Eastern Conference.

Felipe Gutierrez

With a good bearing and elegant gait, Felipe Gutiérrez is a central midfielder who, at the age of 32, when many are beginning the decline of his career, found a great opportunity in wearing the Colorado Rapids jersey. Since his arrival, he has been a starter and played 12 games, although the Denver team did not have a good campaign.

Gutiérrez has a long career that began at Universidad Católica de Chile and continued with success in Dutch soccer, with four seasons at FC Twente. This is his second MLS experience, having played two years in Kansas City.

Diego Rubio

The godson of the great Ivan Zamorano, Diego Rubio is a powerful striker who plays for Colorado Rapids. The former Colo Colo player spent several seasons in Portuguese soccer and had spells in the Romanian and Norwegian leagues, as well as in the Spanish second division. An international with the Chilean national team, he had a great 2022 with the Denver team, scoring 16 goals and providing 7 assists in 30 games.

Felipe Mora

The Audax Italiano striker had a great performance in 2021 with Portland Timbers, scoring 13 goals. However, this year he suffered a serious knee injury that sidelined him early in the season, one in which he was barely able to complete seven games. Despite this, the club renewed his contract for three years, and he will be ready to regain lost ground in the 2023 MLS.

A member of the Chilean national team since youth, Mora made the jump to MLS in 2020 after two successful seasons with Pumas UNAM.
