Betting on Emelec
Emelec’s debut in the Copa Sudamericana was a tough pill to swallow, losing 2-0 against Danubio in Uruguay. Despite having the lion’s share of possession (54%), the team simply couldn’t find the back of the net, managing to hit the target only once out of 10 shot attempts.
It’s fair to say that Argentine coach Miguel Rondelli’s team didn’t put on a great show. Danubio, on the other hand, made the most of their chances, attempting 18 shots on goal and scoring seven times. Emelec’s defense committed six fouls, gave away five corners, and won five.
Unfortunately, things didn’t get any better for the team between that match and this week’s clash against Huracán. Emelec suffered two defeats in the Ecuadorian league, both by 2-1 scorelines against Aucas and El Nacional respectively.

Huracán kicked off their participation in the Copa Sudamericana in style with a 4-1 victory over Paraguay’s Guaraní on their home stadium. The goals were scored by Santiago Hezze, Lucas Castro, Santiago Luján, and Juan Garro, all of whom came off the bench in the second half.
The hosts had 50% of the possession but attempted a whopping 21 shots on goal, hitting the target 10 times. They didn’t give their opponents any breathing room, allowing only eight shot attempts and conceding just one corner (while winning three).
However, in the Argentine league, Huracán’s fortunes couldn’t be more different. They lost all three matches they played between the game against Guaraní and the upcoming clash against Emelec. They suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat against powerhouse River Plate, lost 2-0 in Córdoba against Belgrano, and finally played out a dull 0-0 draw against Argentinos Juniors, who had a player sent off (Gastón Verón) in the 85th minute.
