Here you will find the Hispanic soccer players to follow in MLS. This year, 2022, the 27th edition of Major League Soccer will be played, and as usual in recent years, fans will be able to see players from different countries around the world on the field. In the last five years, the Hispanic legion has expanded greatly in MLS, filling the franchises with talent.
Some of the Hispanic players already have extensive experience in the sporting world and are just closing their careers in this league, but others are looking to make a name for themselves in order to make the leap to the old continent. For this reason, we must pay close attention this season, which promises to be a truly outstanding show.
Here’s a look at the Hispanic MLS Players to watch this season:
Carlos Vela
Mexico’s Carlos Vela will be playing his fifth season with Los Angeles FC, with whom he still has a pending debt: to be crowned champion. One of the most decisive Hispanic players in league history, the Aztec player broke the record for goals in a season (36); however, the magic wore off, and he underperformed in the following two years. This could be his comeback season, as many feel this is his final season in MLS.
So far, he has played 84 games and scored 59 goals for Los Angeles.
Andreu Fontás
The former FC Barcelona player is in the final year of his contract with Sporting Kansas City. He hasn’t had great performances, but he appears to be in the coaching staff’s plans for this season, so he might re-emerge and put on a good enough performance that eventually lets him be an undisputed starter for one of the greatest teams in the Western Conference.
Brian Rodriguez
He arrived at Los Angeles FC in the 2009 season, so he has had highs and lows in MLS. However, last season he had a great performance which led him to be called up to the Uruguayan national team. His main quality is his speed, which allows him to take the ball and escape from opponents. He seems to be at his best level, so it is expected that this new season he will have a lot of participation in the attack either scoring goals or distributing assists.
Julian Araujo
Right back Julián Araujo had an outstanding participation in the 2021 season with the Los Angeles Galaxy, being an indispensable part of the team. His speed on the right flank, as well as his efficiency when it comes to crossing, give hope that this will be a season of strengthening for the Mexican-American.
David Ochoa
The Real Salt Lake goalkeeper is one of the youngest in Major League Soccer, and also one of those who have surprised fans the most with his outstanding performances. He helped RSL reach the Western Conference final, which they eventually lost. However, he earned the trust of the coaching staff and the management and will continue to defend the three posts this season.
He will have internal competition, as the team also includes goalkeepers Jeff Dewsnup and Zac MacMath, but it seems that the Mexican-American is currently winning the race.
