After much debate, it was officially confirmed that the 2023 season of Liga 1 will not begin for a variety of reasons: some of these are related to the sport and some of them aren’t. Join us at JefeBet for the most recent information on Peruvian soccer. We’ll also explain why the start of Liga 1 has been delayed.

Why Has Been Liga 1 Suspended? | All About the Delay of the Start of the Peruvian Soccer Season

Why Has Been Liga 1 Suspended?

Agustin Lozano, the president of the Peruvian Soccer Federation, was tasked with confirming the information regarding the difficult circumstances in the nation, which naturally impacts the holding of all sporting events.

Liga 1 is ready to start, but we are also respectful of the Government’s decisions. We understand the situation the country’s going through, so the country comes first. Respectfully, we do so. However, Liga 1 is prepared to begin, so we anticipate that all the clubs will take part, since it is what we most desire.

The Sports Security Directorate (DISEDE) indicated in a press release that it was best to suspend all sports activities scheduled between January 17 and 23, 2023, in order to prevent and avoid risks affecting the safety and physical integrity of people. This is because there have been numerous protests and rallies on Peruvian territory during the past few weeks.

Peru’s serious political and social crisis has already cost the lives of at least 50 people, according to various police reports. There have been protests in several regions of Peru, and authorities believe that protests may get worse in Lima in the coming days.

The Peruvian Soccer Federation is in conflict with eight professional teams about media rights in Peruvian soccer, which adds to the country’s difficult social circumstances.

Alianza Lima, Universitario, Sport Boys, Melgar, Cienciano, Binacional, Cusco and Municipal are the eight teams that had announced this week that they were not planning to play in the start of the tournament due to the issue of television rights.

Last December, a court accepted an injunction filed by the FPF and ordered those teams not to broadcast their official and friendly matches already contracted with Consorcio Fútbol Perú (CFP), which has led to a fierce war for the rights. This makes things much more complicated for the Peruvian tournament in 2023.

These teams have made it clear that if the injunction is not lifted, then they don’t intend to participate in the championship. The board of directors of Alianza Lima recently indicated that although if the team does not intend to compete in the opening round of the competition, they still want to give them a practice session so that they are prepared for the Copa Libertadores in 2023.

With regard to our institutions, we act responsibly enough. We can still choose to take part in the Copa Libertadores while not competing in the tournament. We have all the necessary registrations in place for this.

The situation in Peru is difficult, and for now there is no certainty as to the new date for Peruvian fans to enjoy the soccer festival.
