This new start to the year has not been favorable to the reigning Serie A champions, as Milan have won just two of their nine games this 2023, including three draws and four defeats. Those four losses came in a row, but the Rossoneri managed to end its negative streak, beating Torino 1-0 on the weekend, and this will serve to gradually get back on track.
Milan also had struggled to qualify for this stage, needing two wins in the last two rounds of the group stage to secure their passage to this round as runners-up in Group E. The home side will face this match with a number of important absentees such as goalkeeper Mike Maignan, Fikayo Tomori, Sergiño Dest and Ismaël Bennacer, which will surely pose a problem for Stefano Pioli when it comes to putting together his eleven.
