Finally, after all the setbacks that have plagued the Peruvian Liga 1, the postponed matches from Matchday 1 were played this past weekend.

Usually, the first few games don’t give a clear picture of how the teams are doing, but this time it’s different. Despite the delayed games, the calendar has progressed, and some teams are already showing their good form by fighting at the top. However, not all of them have been lucky, so the rest of the teams are working hard to improve.

Universitario 3-0 Cienciano (Mar 24)

Cesar Vallejo 0-2 Sport Huancayo (Mar 25)

With that, it seemed that the night was coming for the visitors. However, it was not to be, as in the 37th minute the referee awarded Alianza a penalty kick and Gabriel Costa converted the goal to even the score and take the game to halftime.

In the second half, Franco Zanelatto put the visitors ahead for the first time in the match with his goal in the 66th minute to make it 1-2. Another penalty was awarded in the 74th minute, but this time to Grau, only for Neri Bandiera to miss. Therefore, the score remained unchanged for the rest of the game.

ADT 0-0 Melgar (Mar 26)

There were only two 0-0 draws this weekend in Peru’s Liga 1, and ADT Tarma vs Melgar was one of them. Both teams had offensive moves in the first half, but neither was able to put the ball in the net.

In the second half, although the coaches made changes in their schemes, the goal did not come.

Sport Boys 0-1 Alianza Atletico (Mar 26)

Sport Boys was defeated away by Alianza Atletico by a score of 0-1. The home team paid dearly for its mistakes, as it had two chances in the first half to open the scoring. However, in the 22nd minute, the referee gave Sport Boys a penalty, but Edinson Mero missed it. In the added time of the first half, there was another penalty for the home team, but even the change of penalty taker did not work, as Kevin Sanchez also missed his kick.

In the second half, things changed, since both teams showed a better performance than in the first half. Garcilaso had a penalty in the 61st minute, but Joao Rojas missed it. Even so, it was Garcilaso that opened the scoring in the 67th minute, with a goal by Santiago Giordana. The lead lasted less than 10 minutes, since Kevin Ruiz tied the score 1-1. Late in the game, in the 84th minute, Leiner Escalante became Carlos Mannucci’s hero by scoring the 1-2 victory.

UTC Cajamarca 0-0 Cusco (Mar 27)

To close matchday 1, UTC Cajamarca vs Cusco faced each other on Monday, March 27. The visitors arrived in much better condition than their opponents. However, in the end, both teams showed a similar performance on the field.

Although both teams had opportunities to score, the 0-0 scoreline remained unchanged, and they signed the second scoreless draw of the day.
